How to help a village
acquire a Platform

UNDP office participation in the project review on January 31, 2001, that was meant to draw a report on activities and achieved results, and thereby formulate necessary recommendations to ensure maximum efficiency in the cell, had given hope of a bounce of activities in Cote d’Ivoire, but to date, the cell has not been able to renew its collaboration with this country, despite several approaches. 


Background and scope

A first mission of the Regional Cell took place in March 2000 and permitted to meet, in collaboration with UNDP, individuals and organizations potentially interested by the platform, including the ADB, IFAD PACIL project based in Bouake, as well as NGO representatives, such as INADES and women’s groupings.

Discussions held with individuals met, and the projection of a film on the platform, allowed gathering advice and suggestions regarding the implantation of platforms in Cote d’Ivoire and make the following findings:

  • There is a general interest for the multifunctional platform, for both its technical concept (the availability and operation of multiple utilities using the same source of energy), as well as the development concept, making the platform a proactive tool able to reinforce the development dynamics in concerned areas, while ensuring that women’s particular interests are taken into account.
